Reflections is a National PTA sponsored arts recognition program. It's a program that encourages artistic expression. Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for nearly 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts.
With positive recognition as the focus of this program, rather than competition, students of all ages and abilities. You can experience the benefits of creative expression and help in finding their own voice in telling their unique story.
REFLECTIONS THEME 2019-2020
“Look Within” is this years exciting theme. Use your imagination to create a film, song, artwork, photograph, poem, short story or dance routine. You may enter as many times as you like in as many categories as you like. Each entry must be accompanied by an official entry form. Be sure to reflect the theme in your work.
Literature – Fiction or nonfiction, prose, poetry, drama, or short story. Entry may be hand written or typed. Writing must not exceed 2,000 words. Consider the following literary styles to portray your original work of fiction or nonfiction: Prose, poetry, drama (screen play and play script), reflective essay, narrative, or short story. Originality: Only new pieces of artwork inspired by the theme may be submitted. Each entry must be the work of one student only.
Visual Arts – Original print, drawing, painting, collage, photographic collage, metal etching or punch work, fiber work, or computer-generated artwork. Frames and artwork containing loose materials are not accepted. Matting is accepted. • Dimensions must not exceed 24x30 inches, including matting. Paper entries must be mounted on sturdy material. • 3D objects (i.e. beads, pasta, etc.) glued to artwork is not permitted. Artwork must be 2D.
Photography – A single photo, panoramic, photomontage (one seamless print of multiple original photos), a multiple exposure, negative sandwich or photogram. Original black-and-white or color image, single print or collage (maximum size 11 x 14 inches including a mat). Framed photos are not accepted. Matting is accepted. • Entry must not exceed 11x14 inches, including matting. • Mount on sturdy material such as cardboard or poster board.
Musical Composition – Voice, instruments or a combination of both, with or without lyrics. Consider the following musical styles and instruments to portray your original composition: A cappella, blues, choral, country, electronic, hip hop, jazz, world music, musical, orchestral, pop, R&B, religious, rock, symphonic/concert band and traditional. Audio must not exceed 5 minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size. Videos are not accepted.
Dance Choreography – Each entry must be the work of one student only. Original dance choreographed by the student with up to 3 dancers. (Video must not exceed 5 minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size). Originality: Only new and original choreography inspired by the theme may be submitted. .
Film Production – Original work, animation, narrative, documentary, experimental, computer-generated (no PowerPoint, Video must not exceed 5 minutes in length and 1GB (one gigabyte) in file size). Originality: Only new and original videos inspired by the theme may be submitted. Each entry must be the original work of one student only.
